Life between the Years (1930 – 2000)


Edwin ‘Eddie’ Broomfield, 45A, has written an excellent account of his life- published by Pen Press Publishers, Brighton, - ISBN of 978-1-906710-31-6.

The early chapters cover his childhood life in the Portsmouth area during the 1930s and then being a teenager in that area during WW2.

There is one full chapter on life as a Boy Soldier at Arborfield, after which Eddie goes on to cover his early service in REME en route to becoming an Artificer Gun, with details of his service life as such.


This is followed by his struggle to advance his career by qualifying as an Artificer Radar, and to prove his worth as such on being posted to the remote island of St Kilda.


Further chapters cover service life in Germany and Malaysia with an active service tour in the jungles of Borneo.

The later part of the book covers Eddie’s life as an officer in REME and a second career as a civil servant, involved in the procurement of Radar equipment.

The last chapter covers his life in semi-retirement, as an Apprentice Training consultant for the MoD.
