More great photos!

We've been lucky enough to have some more photos - this time of a sports theme. Peter Haydon sent us a 1970 Badington team photo and Geoff Earnest 58A sent in a School Cycling Team one form 1960.

They are great - so have a look  here Arborfield Sports

Apprentices Memorial

Gentlemen,
Please be advised of the latest positive developments.
Following the meeting of the N.M.A. Trustees on the 26th of Jan, when our design presentation was scrutinised, the following good news was relayed to me,in the form of two e-mails.

1) To:- David Chapman (Chairman of the Steering Committee)
From:- Paul Kennedy (Curater of the N.M.A. site)

Dave,
Letter in the post,it went through without any problems.
Regards Paul
and secondly,

2) To All members of the Steering Committee.
From:- Johnny McGahan (Harrogate Rep and Volunteer Helper at the N.M.A.)

Gentlemen,
Further to our design being approved by the trustees,I have been told by Paul Kennedy that the location will be in the vicinity of the "Shot at Dawn" and the recently opened REME monument.
The exact position is not yet specific but our A.A.N.M. will be flanked by a proposed Para monument and a yet to be built monument to The Rifles. If you are familiar with the area you will know that it is quite a pleasent place.

Johnny

This has to be the best possible news we could have hoped for. It is the first major target that we set ourselves following the first steering committee meeting held last October, and is indicative of how far we have come in less than six months. The hard work will start when we begin fund raising, after the stonemason K.L.Perfitt gives up a costing.

Regards Mo

George James Alfred HOUGUEZ

On Friday 29th January 2010, along with George Dixon (43B) and Lou Myers (41A) I attended the Funeral of George Houguez (42A) Chelsea Pensioner, at The Wren Chapel of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
The AOBA Scroll, prepared by Eddie Broomfield (45A) was presented to his son, George Houguez. This is being displayed at the Memorial Service being held in Coventry in two weeks time.
I was able to speak to CSM Huxley after the service.
Over 200 were at the funeral, including the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Hanna Gordon and her husband. Also friends from his scouting activities in Coventry, County and National level.
A coincidence, immediately opposite where I was seated in the Chapel was the embroidered ‘ Kneeler’ from The Army Apprentice College.
As the tributes were being made I realised how much George Houguez cared for his fellow man and his dedication to Church,
Charity and the Scouting Movement A truly great man.
